Aberystwyth 2

Aberystwyth originated as a garrison town to help the Normans subjugate the local population. Since then it has been mining town (silver and lead), and for a while, through fishing and transporting ore, it had the 2nd busiest port in Wales. From the 1870's to the 1950's it had a thriving tourism industry. Now Aberystwyth is a University town which adds over 7,000 students to the local population.

Aberystwyth Sea Front 1

Aberystwyth seafront hosts Victorian / Edwardian buildings mostly 4/5 stories high. The wide promenade protect the buildings from the revenges of the Irish Sea and offers space to sit, soak up the sun and view the surrounding hills and mountains which in winter are often covered in snow. On a clear day you may see the tallest mountain in Wales, Snowdon.

Aberaeron

Aberaeron a delightfully planned Georgian town, building of a port at the mouth of the river Aeron, being the brainchild of a local cleric - the Reverend Alban Jones-Gwynne - building began in 1807 and included quays, stone piers and two squares around which were erected terraced houses.
