Builth Wells Autumn 2008

Builth first emerged in post-Roman times, along with the Kingdom of Powys. Builth Wells grew as a traditional Welsh market town and later a spa, and is well known nationally as the location of the Royal Welsh Showground, home to the Royal Welsh Show (although the showground is actually over the river Wye in Llanelwedd, Radnorshire).

Every Thursday throughout the year, stall holders move into the Buttermarket and Memorial Square. From 8am to mid afternoon the area is busy with shoppers.

Richard Booth founded the world's first Book Town at Hay-on-Wye in 1961.. Centrepiece of Hay-on-Wye is the Castle , dating from 12th Century and incorporating the Hay Castle Bookshop.
The Castle Book Store, is but one of a vast number of new and second hand book outlets in Hay on Wye.

Hay Castle Bookshop is situated in the impressive public rooms and grounds of the Castle which dominates the town. Altogether, the most satisfying location for any collection of Antiquarian books.
The Castle is organised into departments which, together with the Limited, cover just about every subject under the sun.
