George Hotel Brecon

The 1852 Bethel Chapel now rings to the sound of cash tills after being converted into a Boots store in the late 1990s.
The chapel looks out onto a busy shopping precinct.

Brecon is a town worthy of exploration. A town of narrow streets of Georgian and Jacobean buildings. Brecon is situated at the confluence of the Usk and Honddu rivers and is the commercial centre of southern Powys.
It is the largest town within the Brecon Beacons National Park and was the county town of the old county of Breconshire but is currently incorporated within Powys. It has a worldwide reputation as the "Town of Jazz".
 

St Mary's Church Brecon

The church of St. Mary's is in the centre of Brecon and the dominating height of its splendid 16th century tower make it one of the most prominent buildings in the town.
St Mary's began as a chapel of ease to the priory but most of the building is dated to later medieval times.
The magnificent West Tower was built in 1510 by Edward Stafford, Duke of Buckingham at a cost of two thousand pounds. In the tower there are 8 bells, the heaviest of which is 16 cwt, which are rung regularly. At 90ft high the tower is visible from all over the town.
